Pllek (yes with a unnecessary second L) is part of the cool, industrial North and is perfect reason to head on the free 15-minute NDSM ferry to NDSM Werf which is a collection of funky offices, student housing, media companies, an indoor skateboard park and industrial artists locations. The ferry itself is a joy and a calming and a free tour of the development on both sides of the IJ (EYE) river.

Pllek’s food is fine in that modern Dutch eetcafe way. They use biological ingredients and sustainably caught fish, just like everyone cool these days. the decor is ramshackle meats shipping container.

Open daily from 9:30am-12am. From behind Centraal Station, take the left ferry (there are four piers). It goes (only) to NDSM Werf. It leaves at :15 and :45 minutes after the hour. During rush hour there are additional NDSM ferries at :00 and :30 as well. If weather allows, and even if it doesn’t, it's best to ride outside in front.

Once you arrive and step on shore in the North, Pllek is behind you and to the right, on the water. It’s about a five minute walk. They serve lunch from 11:30 am.

Neveritaweg 59 , tel: 020-2900 020. Return ferries leaving (make sure it says Centraal Station) at :00 and :30.
